Spring Northgreen Neighborhood Cleanup
TBA

Please plan to gather at Northgeen Clubhouse parking lot at 8:00am to help clean up our adopted street, Jeffreys. Gloves, vests and bags will be provided. With enough community-minded participants, we can cover additional streets in Northgreen. If you cannot come out to help, please clean up on your own street. Working together, we can keep Northgreen looking good, a place we can all be proud to call home!

Keeping Up Appearances

Spring is just around the corner. Spring is a good time to take inventory of the condition of our air conditioner, roof & gutters, to power wash away mold and mildew and replace rotted wood. If cash is short, seek a line-of-equity. Don't let delayed maintenance grow into major expense. Remember the 'ole “stitch in time saves nine”!

If you have concerns about a specific property near you, you may contact the City's Housing Code Inspections at 467-4955. Please also let NGVA know (by phone or email) of your concerns. NORTHGREEN COVENANTS PROHIBIT BUSINESS SIGNS on residential property! This includes parking business vehicles with obvious business solicitation signs on residential property. Please comply voluntarily with our NGVA covenants to preserve the appearance of our neighborhood and the investment we have in our homes.

The Power of Shade Trees

For those who have very small lots with limited space for trees, small low-growing trees such as dogwoods and redbuds are attractive landscaping additions. However, there is a world of difference between these and the large shade trees that are needed to remove pollutants from our air, shade our houses, reduce our energy bills and stimulate more humane behavior. We should challenge ourselves to see how many shade trees we can plant on our property! Please read a few of the following articles describing the many benefits of actual shade trees!

Northgreen... From The Realtors' Point Of View

As homeowners in Northgreen, and as real-estate professionals, we are often asked "What is my home worth?" and "Is there demand for the Northgreen area?" Obviously, we all want a home investment that appreciates in value and is in demand, so that we can see prices go up. Having lived in Northgreen, and having worked in the residential sales market for many years, here are our observations:

When buyers make decisions to choose an area to live in, they consider several things. One of the most important things is the overall image/appearance of the neighborhood. People want to feel that there is pride in ownership. Before they look at specific homes that might suit them, they want to get a good feel for the neighborhood. We, as homeowners, must do certain things to attract buyers to the neighborhood... people that we would enjoy having as neighbors!

Maintain and keep up your homes exterior. Repair and paint to keep good curb appeal. Maintain your lawn. Keep your grass cut regularly and the bushes trimmed. Do NOT park cars anywhere except in a driveway space, make arrangements to extend your driveway into the backyard, or put cars in the rear... preferably behind a fence! Anywhere but your front yard. Finish your projects. Clean up and put away your tools, toys, etc. when not in use.

These things have gotten to be a problem in Northgreen. People ride through and see unkept properties, cars in yards, and ask about enforcement of the restrictive covenants and city ordinances. They leave our area and buy in neighborhoods where homeowners have more respect for curb appeal and general neatness. Homeowners, as well as owners of rental properties make sure that this is not occurring.

Prices do not go up when demand is low! We must create demand for our area! We live in a terrific location. There is no reason for us not to have some of the most desirable properties in town... but we all need to be positive! The golf course is open again under new, local owners. We all need to support their effort to make sure the golf course remains an asset, not only for Northgreen, but for the Rocky Mount community. We live on a championship course.....one of the undisputed best in the area. Be proud of that and tell people that Northgreen is a great place to live! Get to know your neighbors... and encourage them to finish all of their outside projects to improve the appearance of their yard and home. Promote the positive aspects of living in our neighborhood... large homes and lots, golf course community, convenience to shopping, dining, banking, and recreation. Let's make sure we maintain our pride in ownership. As a united community, we can be one of the best neighborhoods in Nash County!
